The operation process of different landfill types and landfill methods is basically the same. Understanding the source, output, composition, and properties (such as compaction density) of the construction waste to be disposed of is crucial for determining the overall plan and operational process of the landfill site.
(1) The sources, composition, and properties of construction waste
The construction waste that needs to be disposed of by landfill mainly includes three types: construction waste from construction sites, demolition waste from old buildings, and road excavation waste. The composition and properties of construction waste vary depending on the source. After crushing, sorting, and pre-treatment, the amount of construction waste from different sources that needs to be buried varies. Road excavation waste is generally crushed and directly buried on site without sorting; Construction waste on construction sites, except for packaging materials and a small amount of sorted wooden blocks, nails, and steel bars, should be buried on site; The demolition of old buildings is relatively complex. Firstly, large waste wood is manually sorted and removed, and then the construction waste is crushed. After air flow sorting, small pieces of wood, plastic sheets, and dust with lower density are separated and transported to the domestic waste landfill. The steel bars and other metals with higher density are recycled and reused through magnetic sorting, while the remaining components (mainly cement concrete blocks, gypsum, broken bricks, etc.) are buried on site.

(2) Production of construction waste
After the landfill capacity is determined, the production of construction waste directly determines the service life of the landfill The determining factors for the production of different types of construction waste are different. The production of construction waste on construction sites is mainly related to the building area, while the production of demolition waste on old buildings is mainly related to the building area and structural type (frame structure or brick concrete structure) of the old buildings. Road excavation waste mainly depends on the length, width, and depth of the excavated road
(3) Compaction density of construction waste
Garbage compaction density refers to the density of garbage when it is compressed into a tight state by compaction machinery The compaction density of construction waste is related to the type of construction waste and the type of landfill compaction machinery. Generally speaking, after crushing, sorting and pretreatment, the compaction density of old building demolition waste and road excavation waste is higher, while the compaction density of construction site construction waste is slightly smaller, and the compaction density of old building demolition waste can reach over 3.0 cubic meters.
